Here are some things you can get up to in this valley of disbelief.

Exploring the Village and its Majestic Waterfalls

The village of Lauterbrunnen is quaint yet teeming with life (and tourists), with traditional wooden chalets, flower-lined streets, and cafés. Stroll through the village to explore local shops offering Swiss souvenirs, artisanal cheese, locally made chocolate and handcrafted goods. Don’t miss the historic Lauterbrunnen Church, a charming whitewashed building that stands to the background of the rolling hills and high cliffs.

Lauterbrunnen is famously known as the “Valley of 72 Waterfalls,” and the waterfalls here are nothing short of mesmerizing. The most prominent is the Staubbach Falls, which plunges nearly 300 meters from a sheer cliff and is visible from almost anywhere in the village. For an up-close experience, you can take a short hike to the viewing platform to feel the misty spray and hear the roar of the water. You can also go even closer via a tunnel carved into the waterfalls belly, taking you underneath the plunging water and into the very stone itself.

Another must-visit is Trümmelbach Falls, a series of ten glacier-fed waterfalls hidden within a mountain. These falls are accessible via a series of tunnels, lifts, and walkways, offering a unique opportunity to witness the raw power of nature here in Switzerland. The sound of the thundering water and the lighting inside the mountain make this a truly wonderful experience.

Lauterbrunnen and its neighbour Interlaken are a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. During summer, hiking trails abound, ranging from leisurely walks to challenging treks. Popular routes include the path to Mürren, a car-free village perched high above the valley, and the hike to Schilthorn, known for its James Bond connections. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails give those who may seek it an adrenaline rush like no other.
